Hi, I have a problem and a few questions about my 98 Savage...

This weekend I used the choke to start my bike and it kept stalling, but i eventually got it going with the choke on. This is the first time I have started/tried to start the bike with the choke, and I dont think I really needed to. After starting the bike I moved it across the street (with the choke still on), turned it off and closed the choke. Ever since, the bike has been stalling (no matter what gear im in, with or without the clutch in) when its low rev and will gain and loose power (like it wants to shut off). I checked and replaced the spark plug and added fuel injection/carburator cleaner to the tank, but I still have the problem. The bike will stall when i come to a stop and idle (it will die every time at idle). Its also difficult to start the bike (takes several seconds holding the starter down).

Could it be the choke valve is stuck open and I cannot see it? I opened and closed the choke a few times to make sure that it was closed... Could it be something wrong with my carburator? I want to learn how to fix the bike myself, so I guess this is the best way...

And (dumb question) how do you check the gap of a spark plug?

And also, my bike was serviced a while ago because i pulled out the engine positioning pin by mistake. Trying to put it back, I took off the tank and tied one of the hoses in a knot (the only one with a metal hose thing, like a spigot at the end, coming from the tank). When I sent it in for someone who knew what they were doing to fix it, they left the hose how it was. This is a hose that comes out from the bottom of the tank (kinda on the side, away from where the other hoses come from by the speedometer). Is this used? If so, where, I couldn't find a place where it should go.

Also, will the 86-88 clymer manual work for my 98 savage?

Any help with any of these would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!
